Hand and Upper Extremity Rehabilitation Clinic at Faulkner Hospital

The Hand and Upper Extremity Rehabilitation Clinic at BWH/Faulkner Hospital offers comprehensive rehabilitation care to individuals with various hand and upper extremity injuries and conditions. Treatment is provided by Occupational Therapists who have specialized in the treatment of hand and upper extremity diagnoses. Therapists who have completed rigorous requirements for advanced specialization in the treatment of hand and upper extremity are designated as Certified Hand Therapists (CHT). The regular and per diem staff of the Hand and Upper Extremity Rehabilitation Clinic at Faulkner Hospital includes seven Certified Hand Therapists. Therapy services are custom-tailored to meet the treatment needs of each individual. We provide treatment for both surgical diagnoses and
non-surgical diagnoses/conditions. Treatment is provided in a context of genuine care and concern for your healing and well-being.

As appropriate for each individual, we offer the following services:

	Fabrication of custom splints and orthotics.
	Evaluation and treatment planning.
	Education regarding diagnosis, treatment options, and outcome potential.
	Individualized Home Exercise Programs.
	Wound care.
	Scar management.
	Edema management.
	Modalities including ultrasound, iontophoresis, neuromuscular electrical stimulation, Fluidotherapy, paraffin, TENS.
	Desensitization and sensory re-education.
	Instruction in adaptive techniques and equipment to increase independence.
	Collaboration with referring surgeons and physicians to facilitate comprehensive clinical care.
