Psychiatry at Faulkner Hospital
     
 

Mission Statement

The psychiatric and substance abuse consultation and outpatient psychiatry programs at Brigham and Women's Hospital were integrated with the inpatient, partial psychiatric and addiction services at Faulkner Hospital. Brigham and Women's/Faulkner Psychiatry provides mental health and substance abuse services at each hospital and at two community-based health centers.

Major Services

Inpatient Psychiatry

The service is a 24 bed locked inpatient unit providing evaluation and short term
treatment for a range of acute psychiatric illnesses. Evaluation for admission is
accessed by calling the psychiatric triage clinician at 617-983-7060.

Partial Hospital

Partial hospital is an intensive, brief, outpatient treatment program for acute psychiatric illnesses. Partial hospital is accessed by calling 617-983-7849 and requesting a referral form.

Adams House Psychotherapy Program

Adams House Psychotherapy Program is an affordable longer-term psychodynamic psychotherapy program. For referrals please call 617-983-7135.

Training

The Department of Psychiatry is a major teaching site for the training of Harvard Longwood psychiatry residents, graduate-level psychology and social work interns, and occupational therapy and nursing students.

BWF Department of Psychiatry

The BWF Department of Psychiatry is chaired by David Silbersweig, MD. The BWF Department of Psychiatry provides mental health and substance abuse services at each hospital and at two community-based health centers.

Joint training programs between the two hospitals include:

Harvard Longwood Psychiatry Residency Training Program: a major post-graduate teaching program in psychiatry affiliated with the Harvard Medical School.

Adams House Psychotherapy Fellowship: a psychodynamic psychotherapy training program for post-residency psychiatrists providing longer-term treatment at affordable rates.

BWF Medical Psychiatry Fellowship: a teaching program, located at both hospitals, for post-residency psychiatrists providing psychiatric consultative care for inpatient medical, surgical and emergency department patients.
