Faulkner Hospital is pleased to announce the start of its free flu
vaccination clinics. The clinics will be held during the month of
November in locations throughout the community. The vaccination is
recommended for people over 50 years of age, residents of long term
care facilities housing persons with chronic medical conditions, and
anyone who has serious long-term health problems with heart disease,
lung disease, kidney disease, metabolic disease, asthma, or anemia.
Vaccination is also important for those with weakened immune systems,
women past the 3rd month of pregnancy and anyone coming into close
contact with people who have increased susceptibility to influenza.
Influenza is a serious disease that can cause fever, cough, headache,
chills, sore throat, muscle aches, and among the elderly, may even
cause death. As a result of changes in the influenza virus itself,
a new shot is needed each year. There are risks, however, associated
with this vaccine, as there are with any other, and people should
consult with their doctors if they have any concerns.
