The Department of Nursing at Faulkner Hospital is dedicated to meeting the health care needs and education of our patients and their families, furthering the education and professional development of the staff charged with their care and creating an environment conducive to excellence in nursing practice and patient care.
We believe that:
- Health is a dynamic state of being, affected by physical and psychosocial factors, and has different meanings for everyone. Because a person can be viewed as an individual or as a member of a group, assessment can include all levels of individual, family, community and society. Finding a balance among all factors is the desired outcome.
- Nursing is a collaborative and unique discipline that assists people in their response to adapting to a continually changing environment. We believe that patients have the right to make informed decisions about their healthcare. Nurses, as primary care givers and coordinators, directly assist people to realize their health potential by accessing available resources.
- Nursing care is provided through the nursing process of assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention and evaluation. We believe in a collaborative and interdisciplinary primary care model, working with other healthcare providers to ensure that complete and comprehensive healthcare is made available to the people of the communities we serve.
- The quality of patient care at Faulkner Hospital is dependent upon the professional knowledge, skill, motivation, judgment and humanism of our nursing staff. We believe that updating knowledge and skill is a constant and ongoing process of professional development. We also believe that research forms the link between theory and practice. Nurses at Faulkner Hospital continually seek to improve the level of professional nursing practice through literature review, practical experience, evaluation, education and research.
