The Department of Nursing has established ten Care Standards that define what the patient/family can expect and which are the responsibility of the members of the department
- The patient/family can expect the provision of a safe environment.
- The patient/family can expect to be treated with dignity and respect.
- The patient/family can expect to be cared for in a collaborative and interdisciplinary manner.
- The patient/family can expect to be considered an integral part of the interdisciplinary team whose needs are considered when developing the plan of care.
- The patient/family can expect to have educational needs evaluated upon admission, and interventions integrated into the plan of care.
- The patient/family can expect that licensed and unlicensed nursing staff is prepared through appropriate education and training for their responsibilities in the provision of nursing care.
- The patient/family can expect quality care will be assured through the continuous improvement process.
- The patient/family can expect that information regarding diagnosis, treatment or relevant facts will be treated with confidentiality in accordance with hospital policy.
- The patient/family can expect hospital participation in community services and education programs.
- The patient/family can expect quality care to be delivered efficiently with attention to issues of cost.
