Balancing Mind, Body and More


Free program for seniors to explore various
modalities of exercise, balance, flexibility and relaxation.

12 week program held on Mondays from 12:30 - 1:30 pm from March 22 - June 14 (no class on Memorial Day).

Classes take place at the West Roxbury/Roslindale YMCA (1980 Centre Street, West Roxbury).

This program is a collaboration of Faulkner Hospital, the West Roxbury/Roslindale YMCA and AgeWell West Roxbury.

Look Good Feel Better


This free American Cancer Society program is offered at Faulkner in conjunction with the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. It is for women who are actively undergoing cancer treatment, to help them combat the appearance side effects of radiation and chemotherapy.

All sessions take place from 10 am - 12 pm on the 5th floor in the Dana Farber Cancer Center. 

The 2010 dates are as follows:

  • July 12
  • September 13
  • November 8

Skin Cancer Screening


The best defense against skin cancer is a good offense, and early detection is our best weapon in the fight against skin cancer. When treated early enough, most skin cancers can be successfully treated and often cured.

The next Free Skin Cancer Screening is TBA.

Faulkner Hospital Walking Club



Lace up your sneakers and join us! Walking group open to all those interested.

Wednesdays from 1 - 2 pm from
April 7 - November 17 (weather permitting).

* Please note that due to large numbers of participants and logistics, the coffee social and raffle listed on the flier take place immediately following the walk at the Arboretum.

Faulkner Joins We Can! (Ways to Enhance Children’s Activity and Nutrition)




National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute

Faulkner Hospital recently became an "Intensive Community Partner."

We, along with several departments in the hospital, will be planning and teaching youth, parent and community programs based on the three basic core aspects of the We Can! curricula, which are:

  • Making healthy food choices
  • Increasing physical activity
  • Reducing screen time

Oral Head and Neck Screenings



40,000 Americans will develop Oral, Head & Neck Cancer this year. Early detection can save lives.

Risk Factors:

  • Smoking
  • Chewing tobacco
  • Consuming alcohol
  • Prior cancer of the region

Signs and Symptoms:

  • Sore in mouth that doesn't go away
  • Sore throat or trouble swallowing
  • Change in voice
  • Growth or swelling in neck

Flu Vaccine Clinics



Influenza is a serious disease that can cause fever, cough, headache, chills, sore throat,muscle aches, and among the elderly, may even cause death. Call the day prior to attending a clinic to ensure it is available. All vaccines are free of charge and no appointments are required. Vaccines will be given on a first come, first serve basis and dates are subject to change based on availability.

Vaccine clinics are held in the Fall and Winter in prepartation for flu season.

Breast Health Care Access Program



Faulkner Hospital provides free mammograms to women over the age of 40 who have no insurance or limited insurance.

Mammography provides women with a low-dose breast
x-ray with the capability of detecting breast cancer in its earliest, most curable stage. The x-rays are taken at the renowned Faulkner-Sagoff Breast Imaging and Diagnostic Centre at Faulkner Hospital.



Appointments are required.

Healthy Heart Screening


This cardiovascular awareness and screening program addresses critical issues with education and screening tests for cholesterol, blood pressure and blood sugar. Faulkner Hospital offers free screening programs to the public.

The next set of screenings will be in the spring of 2011.

Healthy Conversations


This speakers' program brings the latest health care information
into your business or organization. Healthy Conversations is a presentation followed by a discussion period in which Faulkner's trained professionals will address the medical concerns specific to your group. Topics include: Ask Your Pharmacist, Beyond Breast Self-Exam, Heart Disease, Choosing a Nursing Home, Nutrition and Weight Loss, Arthritis and How to Cope, Prostate Cancer and many more.
